It is simply a fact that Dr. Mark Dekutoski loves to teach others how to heal the sick better than ever before. That is one reason why he is a top medical researcher. He probably comes to his teaching honestly, stemming from a lifelong love of learning that has always been there. After he graduated high school, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Albion University in 1982, before going on to Wayne State University School of Medicine and officially becoming Dr. Mark Dekutoski, MD in 1986.

Of course, just getting a medical degree was not the end of Dr. Mark Dekutoski’s educational journey. Following medical school, he completed an internship in general surgery in 1987 and a residency in orthopedic surgery in 1991, also at Wayne State. He also served as a John H. Moe Clinical Spine Fellow at the Twin Cities Scoliosis Spine Center at the University of Minnesota in 1993, which was an incredible learning experience.

Nowadays, he is known for his very impressive research and writing skills. For example, Dr. Mark Dekutoski has been a reviewer and collaborator for many surgery-related medical journals and he has also served as an editor for several publications, including one of the most prestigious orthopedic journals in the world, Spine. He is so highly regarded that he also served as Associate Editor for the Journal of Spine Disorders and he was chosen to serve on the editorial board for the Journal of Current Surgery. When you look at all of his experience, you can see how it has allowed him to improve his decision-making processes and even to help shape the entire field of orthopedic spinal surgery. Dr. Mark Dekutoski is a leader in the field of spine surgery and it shows in everything he does.

With more than 20 years of experience in the medical field, Dr. Mark Dekutoski relocated his practices in orthopedic surgery from Minnesota to Arizona as he joins The CORE Institute. Mark Dekutoski arrives after more than two decades of work serving the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he carved out his niche in orthopedic surgery. His specific focus is in adult and pediatric minimally-invasive spine deformity-scoliosis, kyphosis, spine tumors, spondylolisthesis and disc degeneration. It was at the Mayo Clinic that Dekutoski emerged as a leader in his surgical and medical field with more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, work as an academic editor, years of educating others in the specialty as well as general surgery, and other administrative duties. Dekutoski is board certified and fellowship trained as well.
